Intelligent Tutoring in Serious Games

Hosted by the Institute for Creative Technologies at USC.
                             Marina del Rey, CA

August 24 & 25, 2006

Welcome

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers and educators to discuss the role intelligent tutoring can play to promote learning in the context of serious games.  We will take a learner-centric approach:  What are the behaviors of good learners?  How do human and computer tutors promote learning?  How does learning occur in video games?  What implicit and explicit techniques are used in serious games to enhance learning?  With presentations from many different perspectives, discussion, demonstrations, and a trip to Dave and Buster's to play cutting edge video games, we expect this to be a lively, entertaining, and productive workshop (continued in the workshop overview).

The Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) at the University of Southern California is a university affiliated research center (UARC) funded by the U.S. Army.  ICT conducts research in artificial intelligence, computer graphics, virtual reality, computer games, intelligent tutoring systems, natural language processing, and more.  ICT is located in Marina del Rey, California, two blocks from the marina, three blocks from the Information Sciences Institute, and 5 miles south of Santa Monica.
